Day 12: Free Day in Hydra

The Beach

Steve pulled up a map to find a route to a beach. The path we took led us through the back alleys of the whitewashed town and up what seemed like hundreds of steps. When we got to the spot that led out of the houses, the path was under construction and unpassable. Had to back track and climb more steps. Rachel may have complained a little at this point!

It took about 45 minutes to spot the water. Lunch at Enalion was a cute spot with great views, however, the food was a miss. It happens.

The water was too cold for the teens, they lounged in beach chairs instead. Mom and Dad floated in the crisp, rocky bottomed sea for about an hour, watching water taxi's whizz by. The walk back was long and the day was hot, so we drifted until we were shivering.

We followed the rock walled coastline path back to town, which was our wow! moment of the day. The views of the sea, and eventually the town from around the corner, were like something out of a movie! We watched ships sail by, we stopped to pet cats, we talked and laughed about the walk to the beach. When back at the harbor, we continued through winding alleyways and found beautiful courtyards. We found a great little pastry shop. Yum!

Ziana and Leo caught up on sleep, while Rachel and Steve left early to walk down to the harbor and shops. The crowds were minimal, and the weather was great. Rachel purchased a wall plaque of Hydra, painted by a local artist, some linen clothing and earrings.

Group Happy Hour

We moved all the chairs on the terrace to form a giant circle. Enveloped by the beautiful surroundings, we talked, we ate, we laughed, we drank. We shared stories about experiences with the supernatural, and a dozen of other topics. The conversation moved easily and the wine flowed freely! One of the tour members shared a story from his childhood that was so impactful and inspiring, the tears were flowing. The evening was special.

We decided on the group name, "The Mosaics". Rachel came up with the idea a couple days prior. Our group was comprised of small pieces from different countries who'd come together to form a tight group. Seemed like a fitting name!

Later on, a group of us enjoyed a dinner at our new favorite souvlaki and pita spot, ...and Onion. The day was another unforgettable one in Greece!
