Day 4: Peloponnese Mountains

Group Lunch

We drove from the top of Delphi mountain to the bottom of the valley, passing a major open aqueduct and through a huge olive groove with over 1 million trees. Dafni continued with Greek mythology lessons as we drove along the stunning coast of the Gulf of Corinth, passing fisheries. We crossed the impressive Rio-Antirrio Suspension Bridge into the Peloponnese, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. Finished one day before the 2004 Olympic Games.

At our stop, we boarded a cog train that moved steadily through the Vouraikos Gorge, scenery galore! We kept going up, and up, and up, and despite there being hardly and space between the tracks and the forested cliffs to the river, people were walking in this narrow space next to the tracks. There were maps along the route to follow, it was a hiking path, not for the faint of heart!

Our bus was waiting for us as the train pulled into the historic town of Kalavryta.

We stopped for a trout lunch in a beautiful nature preserve setting, with streams, waterfalls and overhanging trees at Planitero Trout Farm. The adults enjoyed the fish, all the teens in the group, including ours, were not as adventurous as we'd hoped and avoided the trout. After the meal we spent time in the natural surrounding before venturing to our final stop for the day.

Tradional Dance and Group Dinner

Lagkadia village, another wow! moment for a hotel/restaurant combination. After a seamless check-in we headed just across the street to an open air, glass railed, suspended above the deep valley, outdoor bar/restaurant.

We watched, and participated in, traditional Greek dancing! The music was loud and energetic, the dancers were incredibly strong and jovial. Opa!

Feeling energized by the dancing, we had a wonderful time at the group dinner. Lots of talking, smiling and laughing!
